DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.
Not much news this week, I'm still trying to get rested up after Field Day last week. If you have any information that you would like to pass on to others, let me know and I'll put it here in the DAREN News.
I've noticed the last few weeks the Hampshire County NODE/PBBS of HAMPWV/RMNYWV hasn't been available. I've tried to post the news and net announcements on it, but it's not there. Also Lee Mairs, KM4YY, the SYSOP for the station, hasn't been checking into the net. The last time he checked in was May 30th. It's possible the HAMPWV/RMNYWV station may have been hit by lightening, and he doesn't have access to the DAREN system any more. Maybe I'll hear from Lee one of these days soon.
Shane Harper, KD8BMX, said he's been doing radio checks with Brent Hathaway, KD8GKR, getting ready for the Auto Rally that will be coming up soon. The Auto Rally will be held August 7th and 8th, and they need Amateur Radio operators to help with the communications. He said that Amateurs are eligible to win one of three prizes, a 2 Meter radio, or one of two antennas. Lunch will be provided, and there is a Dinner on Saturday after the race. You also get a T-Shirt for the help. Any one interested must preregister at www.rallywv.com. If you don't have internet access, you can contact Shane and he will get you the form. Shane's E-Mail address is: shane_daddy@hotmail.com. You can also leave him a message on the Elkins PBBS of ELKNWV on the DAREN system.
Don't forget to check out the Radio-A-Day Give Away. You can purchase your tickets by Paypal. There will be 26 radios and 10 automatic $200 winners in the giveaway that will be finalized at the Parkersburg Hamfest on October 10th. You DO NOT have to be present to win. All of the information is on the website: www.wc8ec.com
There were 60 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net. Daniel Ritchie, KC8ZLK, needs only one more check-in to make 150. There was one new check-in to the net this week and that was Brandon Zickefoose, KD8JXY, from Parkersburg. Brandon worked a couple of shifts at our Free Coffee Safety Break over the weekend. We keep a Packet station set up in the trailer all the time, and I saw Brandon playing around on the DAREN system. The next thing I knew Brandon had checked into the State Wide DAREN Net. After we had shut the Safety Break down, I saw Brandon check into the ARES District 3 DAREN Net Sunday evening. It looks like Brandon has set up a Packet station at the house. I hope Brandon says involved with Packet Radio and checks into the State Wide DAREN net as often as possible.
