DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.

I'm late getting the News out again this week.  There was a Mountain Bike Race today, and the officials wanted to have Amateur Radio communications around the course for safety issues.  Fourteen Amateurs showed up for the race even with all of the rain, mud, and cold weather.  The Amateurs were placed around the course in some of the most dangerous locations so they could keep track of the riders and report any mishaps that might happen.  A communications command post was established at the race headquarters to keep the race officials updated, and also have direct communications with the volunteer fire department who was on standby at the event.  I left the house at about 7:30 am and didn't get back home until after 6:30 pm, so I'm just now getting the DAREN News started.  As the spring and summer events start taking up more of my time the DAREN News may be a little late getting out from time to time, unless I receive information early and I can get the News started sooner.  It also hasn't helped that my Internet Service hasn't been working since Monday.  Anything I need to do with my E-Mail or the Internet, I need to go into town to my Daughter, KC8DJJ's, house and use her service.  Maybe one of these days someone will get High Speed Internet out here in the boondocks and I can catch up with the rest of the world.

Gene Roy, N8ER, caught something that I had missed over a year ago.  There was a new station that checked into the State Wide DAREN Net on December 8, 2007. That station was KD8HJN.  I guess it never came to my attention that the operator was Jerry Nelson, KC8HUP.  After checking the records and doing a QRZ Callsign search, I found that KD8HJN's old Callsign was KC8HUP.  Jerry had checked into the net on December 1, 2007, as KC8HUP, and then checked into the net on December 8, 2007, as KD8HJN.  I need to combine all of Jerry's check-in participations and correct his certificates.  Thanks Gene.

There were 63 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Lisa Hendershot, KB8UER, who's been participating in the net since August 20, 1994, has completed 750 check-ins and will be receiving her certificate.  There was one new participant to the net this week, and that Douglas Haines, W8DEH, from Keyser, WV.  I want to welcome Doug to the DAREN system and hope he participates as often as possible.
