DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.

I'm late getting the News out this week.  Even though I got up early this morning, I know I won't get the News done since I'm getting ready to head for the Athens, Ohio Hamfest.  The weather has been so nice I'm trying to get my gardens ready to plant.  Yesterday I got the tomato garden, with 180 plants, finished, and I need to get started on the corn garden as soon as I get back from the hamfest.  Maybe I can get an earlier start on the News next week, but there two activities on Sunday.  I'll only be able to participate in one of them.  There's a Challenge at Mountwood Mountain Bike Race, and the Jackson County Hamfest in Ripley.  I would like to go to both of them but they are at the same time.  The officials of the Bike Race want Amateur Radio operators around the race course for safety concerns.  I would like to go to the Jackson County Hamfest to sell tickets for the Radio-A-Day Give Away that just started. I think I'm going to help with the race and let one or two other members go to the hamfest.  The Jackson County Hamfest will be located at the Ripley Middle School in Ripley.

I still need to find the time to go to the Wood County NODE/PBBS site of WOODWV/PKBGWV to get it repaired.  The last time I worked on the station, I gave the TNC a Hard Reset which made it work for awhile.  I was a little concerned about the reset which took a couple of times to do.  It didn't reset like most of the TNCs.  I thought it might have been because it was a new version of software.  I'll just change out the TNC this time.  At least I have a NODE set up here at the house which has the ALIAS of WOODWV so that DAREN operators can at have a station to connect to.  The temporary station doesn't have a Mailbox or PBBS, it just a NODE.

Wood County Emergency Communications received their Raffle License on Wednesday for the Radio-A-Day Give, and their tickets on Friday.  The tickets are now on sell and can be purchased in person or over the Internet.  The WCEC website has a list of all the prizes and the rules for the raffle.  If you are interested in trying to win one of the 26 radios and 10 instant cash prizes, connect to the website: www.wc8ec.com for all of the information.  All of the prizes will be awarded at the Wood County Hamfest which will be held on October 10th in Parkersburg.

That's all I have for this week.  If you have any information that you would like published in the DAREN News, let me know.

There were 60 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Lisa Hendershot, KB8UER, needs only one more check-in to make 750.  I still need to get a few certificates printed up for those who have completed their required check-ins within the last two or three weeks.  When the warm weather hits a lot of activities start up and I'm already starting to get behind.
